YouTube Title and Thumbnail Tips
The title and thumbnail decide whether a person clicks your video. They work together as one message, and they must match what the video really offers.
Title tips
- Put the main keyword or topic near the beginning.
- Keep it short and clear, ideally under about 60 characters so it is not cut off.
- Show the benefit or curiosity, for example "5 Easy Ways to Reduce Video Editing Time".
- Do not use clickbait that the video cannot deliver.
- Avoid writing everything in capital letters.
Thumbnail tips
- Use one clear idea. A crowded thumbnail is hard to understand on a small phone screen.
- Use large, readable text of three to five words at most.
- Use bright, high-contrast colours and a clean background.
- Show a face with a clear expression if it suits your topic.
- Keep the same style across videos so viewers recognise your channel.
Do not repeat the same words
If the title says "How to Edit Videos on Phone", the thumbnail text can add something new, like "Free App". Together they tell a fuller story.
Test and learn
Check the click-through rate in YouTube Studio. If a video gets impressions but few clicks, try improving the thumbnail or title and compare the result after some days.
