How to Make Your Website Load Faster
People leave slow websites quickly, especially on mobile data. A faster site keeps visitors longer and feels more professional. Here are practical steps that work for most websites.
1. Compress your images
Large photos are the most common reason for slow pages. Resize images to the size you actually show, and save them as WebP or well-compressed JPEG. Never upload a 4000 pixel photo to display it at 400 pixels.
2. Use fewer scripts and plugins
Every extra script, font and plugin adds loading time. Remove what you do not need. If you add third-party code such as ads or analytics, add only what is necessary.
3. Turn on caching and compression
Ask your hosting provider to enable GZIP or Brotli compression and browser caching. Many hosts have this as a simple setting.
4. Choose decent hosting
Very cheap overloaded hosting can make even a light site slow. Choose a server location close to your visitors and upgrade when your traffic grows.
5. Keep your pages light
- Avoid auto-playing videos on the first screen.
- Load images below the fold lazily.
- Reserve space for ads and images so the page does not jump while loading.
6. Test regularly
Use free tools such as Google PageSpeed Insights to check your pages and follow the suggestions that give the biggest improvement first.
